SMARTer Kids Grant for NEC Visual Presentation Products or SMART Products – Due: September 30, 2003

Grants are available to all public or private, accredited, not-for-profit educational institutions, authorized homeschoolers, museums, and libraries involved in K–12, college, university, vocational and technical instruction or administration for 11% to 53% of the suggested list price for the purchase of qualifying NEC visual presentation products or a Grant amount of 20% to 70% of the suggested list price is awarded on a per unit basis for qualifying SMART products

American Radio Relay League’s Victor C. Clark Youth Incentive Program

Amount: Mini-grants of up to $1,000 each

Due: The foundation reviews proposals throughout the year

Who: High school radio clubs, youth groups, general interest radio clubs and nonprofits that sponsor groups of students or make an effort to get them involved in radio club activities

Purpose: supports the development of amateur radio among high school age or younger students and aims to enrich the experience of radio amateurs under the age of 18.

Application includes: An applicant for a mini-grant must write a brief, but complete proposal including such items as: names, call signs (if applicable), addresses and telephone numbers of sponsors; objectives of the proposed program; existing resources if relevant (e.g. status of school club station, etc.); concise, realistic statement of financial need; description of local resources (e.g. matching funds, specific financial and/or equipment/material contributions); commitment of relevant local non-ham group (e.g. school, school science coordinator and/or principle, school board); any relevant supporting documentation including letters of support, letters of intent, pledges and the like timeframe; local evaluation process; criteria for evaluating program effectiveness/success.

Possible activities may include:  using grants to secure equipment for antennas for club stations, purchase training materials, support local service projects that bring favorable public exposure, and similar activities. Preference will be given to projects for which matching funds are raised locally.

International Technology Education Association educator awards

  1. Autodesk Inc./ITEA Elementary Grants – Advancement of Technology Education in the Elementary Schools (K-6):  This program will award seven project grants of $1,000 each to K-6 elementary schools seeking to boost technology education curriculum.  Schools should be ITEA members.  Applicants should show a need for funding; preference will go to those who will be able to reach the maximum number of students through creative use of funds.  Each program should be comprehensive and project based, concerned with technology and its organizations, personnel, systems, techniques, resources, and products; and their social/cultural impacts.  www.iteawww.org/12a.html
  2. Greer/FTE Grant – ITEA Professional Development: enables technology teachers who are ITEA members to undertake professional development activities; the winner will receive $1,000 to attend an upcoming ITEA conference.  In addition, all applicants must teach grades 6-12 and have not attended more than three ITEA conferences prior to application.  www.iteawww.org/12c.html
  3. Hearlihy/FTE Grant – Excellence in Teaching Technology: $2,000 will go to an ITEA member K-12 technology teacher who has effectively integrated an outstanding technology program within school curriculum.  Each applicant must demonstrate evidence of an effective technology education program, documented success in using technology with other academic topics, and plans for professional development (made possibly through this grant).  www.iteawww.org/12b.html

Inspiration Software Inspired Teacher Awards

Who: K-12 educators

Purpose: used for professional development

Application includes: explaining how you have incorporated and championed visual learning in your classroom, school, or district in the past year; share an example demonstrating how you have used technology to incorporate visual learning into the curriculum, describe the conference, class, or workshop you plan to attend and its relevance to visual learning, how you plan to share the new information gained from your workshop, class or conference with the students or teachers in your school or district.

Possible activities may include: attending conferences, creating district-wide visual learning projects, and conduct assessment initiatives

SMARTer Kids Grant for NEC Visual Presentation Products or SMART Products

Due: September 30, 2003. Applications will be processed and Grants awarded as received. Recipients have until October 31, 2003, to use their Grants, after which time their 2002–2003 Grants will expire. However, applications received between August 1, 2003, and September 30, 2003, for which a Grant has been approved, but not used, will be automatically reprocessed and approved by the foundation under the new guidelines for the 2003–2004 Grant year.

Macromedia’s Back-To-School Student Contest

Amount: Apple iPods to six outstanding student-designed Web pages

Due: November 15, 2003

Who: Students age 14 and older who attend middle or high school or an accredited 2-year or 4-year college as of May 1, 2003 are eligible.

Purpose: skill promotion designed to encourage the development of outstanding web pages using Macromedia's Dreamweaver, Flash, Freehand, Fireworks or Director products

Application includes: you may choose the format, content and design, provided your site does not infringe any third party rights, and is not obscene, defamatory or offensive. Put your entry on a CD or disk, and include your complete name, your email address, your date of birth, your school name (and campus, if necessary), address, phone number, your current grade level or status at institution, your major or area of focus, the URL of your Web site (if it is posted), and a brief description of your entry, including strategies, goals and which Macromedia software you used to create your digital experience. Please fill out the submission form and submit your entry online. You may also mail your submission form to Macromedia Back-to-School Student Contest, 600 Townsend, San Francisco, CA 94103. Entries must be received by 11:59 PM (PT) on November 15, 2003. Limit one entry per category (three entries total, one for each category). You cannot submit an entry in more than one category, and you must submit each entry separately.

  • Build Stuff sites that serve a specific purpose such as delivering data, selling a product or playing a game;

Reporting: Two prizes (one judged by popular vote, one by a panel of experts) will be awarded in the three categories listed above.

Criteria:

  • Creativity/Ingenuity: 25%. Is the entry creative, unique and inventive? Does the entry employ interesting user interface or interactive techniques?
  • Design/Functionality: 25%. Does the entry achieve its goals? Is the entry intuitive to use? Does the entry allow the user to do something? Can the user give and receive?
  • Theme/Content: 25%. Is there a consistent graphic identity scheme? Does the entry effectively use space and movement? Does the content fit the design?
  • Technical Achievement: 25%. Does the entry maximize or extend the use of the Macromedia tool? Does the entry make use of multiple media types and promote user interactivity?

Who: School teachers or administrators

Purpose: enhance the education opportunities for K-12 students

Application includes: Applicants need only state the reasons why the use of a PLUS multimedia projector and copyboard will enhance your students education and submit some unique examples of how you might use PLUS tools.  We will keep your submission in our files until the end of the year for consideration towards our next three selections. There is no need to resubmit your application; it has automatically been re-entered.
